Celadon Vase by Watanabe Akihiko
Watanabe Akihiko(b.1959) is celadon master who fires a noborigama in the Izu peninsula west of Tokyo. Watanabe was born and raised in Hirashimizu, Yamagata prefecture home of the pottery of the same name. Yet Watanabe took it upon himself to learn the hardest of styles, celadon, plus he fires in a wood-fired kiln, one of very few in Japan to fire this way. Here is a long-necked Watanabe celadon vase that recalls a Lucie Rie form; in perfect condition with a signed box, 29.5cm.tall, signed on base.
