Good Friends—Hamada and Kawai
Hamada Shoji (1894-1978) and Kawai Kanjiro (1890-1966) were life-long friends and almost everyone knows their respective stories. Legends. Here are two fine examples of their works, a Hamada nuka-iron-glazed jar and a rare Kawai tokkuri; each is in perfect condition with the Hamada at 23.3cm.tallx21.3 and Kawai at 16.6cm.tallx8.5. On the base of the Hamada is written that it was acquired at the Hamada compound on December 17, 1974 (Showa 49). There no boxes, yet Robert can have one made and he can sign them–think about 15,000 yen for the Hamada and 10,000 yen for the Kawai. Or a signed box by each family can be made, think 60,000 yen for the Hamada and 50,000 yen for the Kawai. As is the Hamada is 280,000 yen and the Kawai is On Reserve yen plus EMS.
