Irosuminagashi / Kyoto / Setsu Junji / Tsubo-Jar-Vase
Iro-sumi-nagashi Faceted Jar by Setsu Junji
We’re very pleased to offer for the first time the works of Setsu Junji, a Kyoto born (’75) and raised ceramic artist we first noticed a few years ago. His works are *very* distinctive for his original technique of ‘drawing’ on clay slabs to create enigmatic designs than conjure up all sorts of images in the viewer’s mind. For these works he’s gaining national recognition including having a work showing now at the Shigaraki Ceramic Park Museum as well as winning the Oribe Prize at the 9th Toki Modern Tea Wares Exhibition, where the celebrated chawan critic Hayashiya Seizo was very taken with Setsu’s chawan: http://www.toki-bunka.or.jp/?eventinfo=eventinfo-3554-2 We have a similar one here, along with other works including a hanging vase. Here is a faceted Setsu jar that shows a different view on each plane and is one of the larger works he makes. It’s 38cm.tallx29cm, signed on base, signed box.
