Hagi / Kaneko Nobuhiko / Vase-Vessel
Two Hagi Yohen Disc Vessels by Kaneko Nobuhiko–Smaller One on Hold
Born in Hagi in 1951 Kaneko Nobuhiko is a multi-award winning artist including the Grand Prize at the Asahi Ceramic Exhibition in 2004, the 2003 Yamaguchi Prefecture Culture Award, the Grand Prize at the 2001 Mashiko Ceramic Exhibition and the Asahi Ceramic Exhibition Award of Excellence in 1998, among others. His work often departs from the Tea world of Hagi, yet retains all that is good in Hagi–glazes and clay–while bringing his own vision to this fabled style. Here is are two classic Kaneko yohen disc ‘vases with shades of lavender and white; the main point of interest though is indeed the rough spreading ‘mouth’ and how the crevices spread over the upper area. The contrast of the smooth body with that dynamic opening is pure Kaneko and very engaging indeed. Both works in perfect condition, the lower one is 13cm.tallx23cm. and is Sold; the taller one is 23cm.tallx25.3×16 and is Sold, both signed on base with signed boxes.
