Henko-Jar / Ash-Glazed / Hagi / Hamanaka Gesson
Two Henko-Jars by Hamanaka Gesson
It's been awhile since I visited Hagi yet took care of that a few days ago. Visited Miwa Kazuhiko, Hatano Zenzo and Hideo, Kaneta Masanao and Hamanaka Gesson. Workd from others to arrive yet these two Hamanaka Gesson henko-hars I drove back to Kyoto, 7 hours. The left one has a rusty-brownish crinkled iron glaze while the right is ash-glazed with 'flying' iron spots; both are subtle and at the same time brilliant, like the man himself. From a past listing, "Hamanaka Gesson (b.1943) is a multi-talented ceramic artist who established his Hagi kiln in 1969; he's had an amazing career ever since with fans throughout Japan and the world. He's known not only for his traditional Hagi wares yet also for his hybrids where he combines various glazes and clays not seen in Hagi before." The left henko is 20cm.tallx17.6x15, signed on base and is On Reserve. The right is 22.5cm.tallx17.2x14cm, signed on base, On Reserve; both in perfect condition with signed boxes.
