Large Nezumi-Shino Henko-Jar by Hori Ichiro
Hori Ichiro(1952-) is considered a mago-deshi or 'grandchild apprentice' to the great past Living National Treasure Arakawa Toyozo(1894-1985), as Hori studied with Kato Kozo (Living National Treasure for Black Seto), Arakawa's apprentice way back when. All in all this leads Hori to fire the 'ol Momoyama Arakawa way' in an anagama. His Mino--Shino/Ki-Seto/Setoguro are amongst my personal favorites in contemporary Mino wares. Simply put, his work has grace and forms that are alive, and the anagama firings give him effects that gas kiln potters just cannot get. This Nezumi-Shino henko/jar has a fine organic form; just take in the colors (feldspar glaze mixing with iron and ash) and textures that create an impressionistic 'landscape.' This is an exceptional work by a rare Mino anagama artist of the finest caliber. In perfect condition with a signed box, 37cm.tallx33cm.x 26cm.across, signed on base.
