Large Celadon Vessel by Watanabe Akihiko
One of the largest, if not the largest, celadon vessels in Japan today, this work stands at 47.5cm. tall and barely fit into the artist's kiln---Watanabe Akihiko(b.1959). Watanabe is 'celadon master who fires an noborigama in the Izu peninsula. Watanabe was born and raised in Hirashimizu, Yamagata prefecture home of the pottery of the same name. Yet, Watanabe took it upon himself to learn the hardest of styles, celadon, plus he fires in a wood-fired kiln, one of very few in Japan to fire this way. An elegant work in perfect condition with a signed box, signed on base.
