Iga Gourd-Shaped Tokkuri by Tsujimura Shiro
Here is fine, tall hyotan-gata (gourd-shaped) Iga tokkuri by Tsujimura Shiro (1947- ). Tsujimura, as many know, is one of the best chadogu (tea ware) potters in contemporary Japanese ceramics. His works display a fascinating and deep simplicity, as well as a sensual iroke, or "eroticism," that only the finest potters can achieve (take Kawakita Handeishi's chawan, for example). What people traditionally look for in Iga ware are three qualities: hi-iro (fire color), koge (grayish "burnt" ash) and bidoro (glassy, crystalized green ash glaze). Such qualities are captured in this hyotan (gourd-shaped) tokkuri. It's 16.2cm tall, 10cm wide, comes with a signed box and is in perfect condition, EMS included.
