Guinomi / Neriage / Kyoto / Nishimura Naoki
Neriage Guinomi by Nishimura Naoki--Main Photo, Back Left Available
A recent discovery is the delicate-woven neriage guinomi by Kyoto's Nishimura Naoki(b.1958). Starting pottery in his teens, Nishimura graduated from the Saga University of Art in 1978 and continued his education at two Kyoto ceramic institutes. In 1983 he established his first studio and then his present one in 1990. His works have been accepted into the Japan Traditional Arts and Crafts Exhibition five times. These four guinomi-sake cups are quite exquisite in the detail of the patterns, each took about a month to complete. Light in the hands, they are are joy to gaze into; the open-faced one is 3cm.tallx8, the others are 4cm., 4.2cm.and 5cm.tall; each in perfect condition with signed boxes.
