Large Seto-Oribe Platter by Kato Shunto
Kato Shunto (1916-2005) was major Seto-based potter of the 20th century and helped create a revival of all styles of pottery made in Seto, including Shino and Oribe. Here is a large hybrid type of platter with one side showing a rich Oribe glaze while the other side has a Seto buff-toned glaze with cross-hatch and petal iron brush motifs. It's a very sturdy and handsome piece; there is one 5cm.restoration on the lip and that is seen in the photos--nothing that takes away from the beauty of the work; otherwise in perfect condition, 6cm.tallx52cm.x23.5, signed on base and with a signed box.
