Crusty Echizen Jar by Kitajima Shigemitsu
Kitajima Shigemitsu(b.1942) was born in the heart of Echizen pottery country and became a potter in 1973 after having studying and becoming a painter from 1961 until fate called him to clay. He basis much of his works on Ko-Echizen(ancient Echizen) from the 12th-16th centuries. This small jar was intensely fired in Kitajima’s small anagama and every side is coated with natural ash-glaze, as well as a ceiling drip on the shoulder. In perfect condition with a signed box, 12.6cm.tallx13.2, stamped on base.
