Iga Sculpture-Vase by Kishimoto Kennin
Kishimoto Kennin (b.1934) has been a potter since 1960 when he entered the Mino world after working at a large production kiln. He has fired Shino, Ki-Seto, Oribe, Iga, and Celadon—he’s a master of the art of fire. He shows mainly at Takashimaya, Tokyo and Hankyu, Osaka and his work is in the Yale University Museum of Art and the Burke Collection, which was given to the MET and MIA in Minnesota. Of all the styles mentioned above it’s Kishimoto’s Iga creations which are favored by collectors, here is a prime example of his powerful Iga expression that was exhibited at Takashimaya, Tokyo in 1987, number 39.
