Mishima-Stamped Vase by Kondo Yutaka
Kyoto-based ceramic artist Kondo Yutaka (1932-1983) was quite an inventive ceramic artist, known for his sumi-nagare (flowing ink), Mishima, ash-glazes and kohiki styles. Yutaka was the first son of Living National Treasure Kondo Yuzo (brother of Hiroshi, uncle to Takahiro) and he had a wonderful career as well as being an influential teacher at Kyoto City University of Fine Arts. Yutaka studied under LNT’s Tomimoto Kenkichi and Fujimoto Yoshimachi, as well as his father. This Kondo one-bud vase dates to 1977 where it was shown at Takashimaya in a group exhibition that included his father. It has a poetic presence and engaging design. In perfect condition with a signed box, 20cm.tallx13, stamped on base.
