Kato Yasukage XIV / Oribe / Toki / Vase-Vessel
Oribe Vase-Sculpture by Kato Yasukage XIV
Kato Yasukage (1964-2012) was born into quite an illustrious Mino potting family and a 14th generation potter who left this world physically much too soon. When his father passed away the young Kato was sent to Bizen to study with Living National Treasure Yamamoto Toshu. Afterwards, he studied at Nagoya Arts University and then took over his families kiln adding a chic-contemporary sensibility to his Mino roots. Here is such a work, an Oribe vase that only he could have made; in perfect condition with a signed box — by his mother — 27.3cm.tall x 17.x12.3, signed on base.
