Rare Bizen by Kaneshige Toyo
All who know Bizen know of the first Living National Treasure Kaneshige Toyo(1896-1967) and his profound importance in reviving Bizen’s grand heritage. Time to let go of this rare sake set, although the tomobako that Kaneshige wrote has yuzumashi or a cooling water pourer, yet it works perfectly as a sake katakuchi holding 150ml. The small guinomi has so much going on as well, ishihaze-stone bursts, goma and yohen as well as hidasuki-straw markings. It’s also a form he did very few of and this is the first one RYYG has even seen, more common to see Rosanjin do this form. Both in perfect condition, the guinomi is 4.3cm.tallx5.6cm.wide at mouth, the yuzumashi is 5.3cm.tallx11cm. from side to spout, both date to the early 1940s, signed on base. The guinomi box was signed by first son Michiaki(1934-1995) and the yuzumashi is the original boxed signed by Toyo.
