Veteran Mino potter Yoshida Yoshihiko(b.1937) is a potter like that of long ago. Leading a simple and quiet life in the hills of Toki, he works from an old farmhouse full of spiritual craft works from the world over. These are his teachers as was the first Living National Treasure for Shino, Arakawa Toyozo(1894-1985). Yoshida’s work is simple but very deep- like the man himself. Two retrospective exhibitions, one at the Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Gifu and another Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art have been shown this year, the latter still on until July 10th, More details here. Here is a fine shirokesho (white slip) jar with subtle changes in form and tonality, a Yoshida trademark. In perfect condition with a signed box, 23cm.tallx22.5. Some yunomi also seen(46,000 yen each) as well as one Shino tokkuri(Sold) and guinomi(70,000 yen-Iron-lip petal form, other two Sold).
