Yama-jawan 12th C. ‘Mountain’ Chawan
In nearly perfect condition–a few filled in hardly noticeable firing cracks on the lip–here’s a 12th century Sanage yama-jawan (‘moutain bowl’) with a lovely soft-greenish ash glaze showing that it was fired near or at the top of the stack, making it a ‘ten-no-ue’ style meaning Above the Heavens. More about yama-jawan here from the Freer and Sackler website: http://archive.asia.si.edu/collections/new-acquisitions/object-2016.asp?id=F2016.3a-d As noted, unsigned box–yet if desired Robert will sign it, 6.2cm.tallx17x15.5.
