Yunomi
Set of Five Iro-E Edo Period Porcelain Yunomi
Here is a very rare set of five iro-e overglaze enamel porcelain tea cups-yunomi that date to the late 1700s. The previous owner from Tokyo--a well-known designer-painter--told us the set is Hirasa-yaki from Kagoshima, a style associated with Satsuma. The Hirasa style began in 1776. Each yunomi was masterfully painted with a net and floral design over the crackled glaze, which is more pronounced inside. The perfect kodai-base is also worthy of note. Each is 8.8cm.tall and 7cm.wide, one has a superficial kiln crack inside the kodai and a few have slight overglaze loss--see photos, otherwise in excellent condition and certainly a set worthy of any museum.
