Ash-Glazed Vase by Ikai Yuichi
I've been following the career of Kyoto ceramic artist Ikai Yuichi(b.1963) for some years now and this is our first time to offer a small selection of his beautiful ash-glazed works. Ikai learned the secrets of ash-glazing from his teacher Living National Treasure Shimizu Uichi, who in turn studied under the legendary Ishiguro Munemaru. This Iga-like vase has a strong triangular base that rises up to a flared mouth; under the green ash glaze can be seen iron underglaze markings that offer up an impressionistic feel. In perfect condition with a signed box, 24cm.tall and 10.5cm.wide at mouth. A few preview photos here and advanced photos sent upon request. Ikai has already exhibited at Japan's finest galleries and has been awarded at the Japan Traditional Arts and Crafts Exhibition.
