Shigaraki Tokkuri by Tsuji Seimei
One of Japan's greatest potters of all time is Tsuji Seimei(1927-). His anagama-fired works are exceptional and his forms contain pure Japanese aesthetics. He's a living legend, after Rosanjin the only potter to have a whole issue of TAIYO devoted solely to him; many potters here say "I want my pots to have spirit like Tsuji Seimei's work." More about Tsuji on e-yakimono.net. Here is a powerful masterpiece Shigaraki tokkuri of his that commands attention. The firing is exceptional and the form breathes. Its globular body is too large to fit in one hand and needs both for pouring; it's very suitable also for chabana. Tsuji included an outer lacquer box and the finest quality inside wooden box available to show the top ranking of this work, one in a kiln. In perfect condition with a signed box, 15.5cm.tall and 11.8cm.wide, signed on side, dating to the early 1990s.
