Bizen Mizusahi by Harada Shuroku
My Japan Ceramic Society friend and the-most-knowledgeable person I know on Japanese ceramics--Kasuga-san---dropped by the other day and immediately stopped in his tracks when he saw this mizusashi. "That is quite extraordinary," and "how neat it would look in a chashitsu tea room," he said. Of course the aesthetic here is going to challenge most uninitiated with Japanese wabi ceramics. I'll leave it at that until I return on Thursday and allow you to ponder this most powerful piece by Bizen great Harada Shuroku. With a lacquer lid , signed box, signed on base, 23.5cm.tall with ceramic lid and 25.5cm.long from 'ear to ear.'
