Fuku Framed Plate by Kitaoji Rosanjin
Rosanjin Kitaoji (1883-1959) was one of the most brilliant--and arrogant--artists Japan has ever known. He was very eclectic making chops, wooden signs, metal works, lacquer, calligraphy and pottery. He still continues to have yearly retrospective exhibitions at major museums and galleries here in Japan and his pieces are coveted. He is by far one of the most celebrated and collected Japanese ceramic artists of all-time. Please see our learning site to learn more about Rosanjin or do a quick web search, much will turn up. Here is a classic Rosanjin plate with his famous Fuku or Good Fortune/Blessings in his distinctive sometsuke blue brushwork. The plate is in a frame that has a nice blue cloth border. The frame itself is 44cmx44cm and the plate is 21cm.wide, signed on base and also has an accompanying box for the plate authenticated by the late Kuroda Ryoji, the famous Tokyo ceramic dealer; he signed his boxes Toto-an as does the second generation Toto-an, Kuroda Kazuya. In perfect condition.
