Vase / Bizen / Fujiwara Yu
Bizen Vase by Living National Treasure Fujiwara Yu
Fujiwara Yu(1932-2001) was the fourth Bizen potter to be named a LNT, that was in 1996. His father, Kei, was also a LNT, the second for Bizen, first was Kaneshige Toyo, third was Yamamoto Toshu and now we have Isezaki Jun. Yu had his own special forms, often solid and tight, and that can be seen on this stoic vase with a fine 'black goma' front showing it was fired very near the fire box. The back is a dark purple-shiso color and flowers will come alive--and also make the pot come alive. In perfect condition with a signed box, 20.5cm.tall and 9.2cm.wide, signed on base, from a private Tokyo chadogu collection.
