Bizen Hidasuki Gunomi by Kaneshige Yuho
Kaneshige Yuho(1950-) studied under his father, the late Okayama Prefecture Intangible Cultural Property Sozan Kaneshige(1909-1995). Sozan worked for many years with his elder brother, the late Living National Treasure Toyo Kaneshige. The Kaneshige family is one of the greatest Bizen potter families ever. Yuho lives in the heart of Bizen right next to the South O-gama of the Momoyama period; it's a quiet secluded workshop. He fires hidasuki--pots wrapped in straw firing to a red/orange--in his father's gas kiln method; this way shook the conservative Bizen world when introduced yet is now a standard firing way. The way the 'vanilla' clay matches the orange-red tones is a delight, plus Yuho has a deep sensitivity in his work. Another wonderful autumn sake vessel in perfect condition with a signed box, 5.3cm.tall and 7.1cm.wide, signed on base.
