Tall Seihakuji Vase by Fukami Sueharu
Kyoto's Fukami Sueharu is an internationally recognized ceramic artist that has works in museums which are too numerous to count. These include The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; Suntory Museum, Tokyo; Museo Internationale delle Ceramiche, Faenza, Italy; The Brooklyn Museum, New York; and the V&A, London. I'm looking at a list that goes on and on for awards as well. It's easy to see why. His seihakuji bluish-white porcelain are sculptural masterpieces that he makes in very limited editions. Here is an early, and thus very rare, large seihakuji--bluish-white porcelain--vase that is titled Sou, which means refreshing, exhilarating, crisp. The soft glazing is a pale blue over the elegant pear-shaped body and Fukami has added two raised lines on the front that not only balance the piece yet also bring a 'shining' white light to the surface; perfection. It dates to Showa 56 or 1981. In perfect condition with a signed box, 32.cm.tall and 14cm.wide, signed on base.
