Kutani Kogo by Kamide Chouemon IV
At first glance this kogo incense case's design looks like it was drawn by the late great Tomimoto Kenkichi, it's that good. In fact, the kogo was drawn by a master, the fourth generation Kamide Chouemon(1929-). His family kiln opened in Meiji 12 or 1879 in the city of Terai, Ishikawa prefecture. Kamide's brushwork on this kogo is of a repeating petal design in Kutani green and yellow with a red backdrop; on top of the lid is a diamond frame with plum blossoms. Take off the lid and one finds cobalt blue/gosu mugiwara-de lines. The kogo, like all kogo, is quite small yet it has elegance and a fine presence that captivates the senses. In perfect condition with a signed box, signed on base, 3.6cm.tall, 5.9cm.across and 3.8cm.deep, from a private Tokyo chadogu collection.
