Bizen Sculptural Henko/Jar by Kawabata Fumio
Quite an extraordinary Bizen henko/jar by Kawabata Fumio(1948-) we offer today. Kawabata is one of Bizen's outsiders (Yokohama born)---like Kakurezaki---and makes his own Bizen with style and flair. Kawabata is Yokoyama Naoki's teacher BTW. This piece dates to Heisei 5(1993) and is very much one of Kawabata's best forms. The firing is rich and warm and it's quite a hypnotizing work. In perfect condition with a signed box, 25.5cm.tall, 19cm.across and 12cm.deep, signed on base. Kawabata is a past winner of the Grand Prize at the Modern Tea Forms Exhibition at the Tanabe Museum of Art, joining Kakurezaki, Ajiki, and Ichino Masayuki, among others.
