Saideiki--'Colorful Mud Vessel' by Ichino Masahiko
Although the facade of this unique vessel is more two-tone than the title implies, color meets the eye on the base and in the 'black hole' center, where all colors come together. The simplicity belies a depth that borders on genius, and that's what I think Ichino Masahiko is, brilliant. His work is hard to keep your eyes off of; I have this piece on my desk now and is keeps calling me back. The subtlety of the incised patterns and the warmth of the white slip--combined with the six-sided form--create an intriguing vessel that delights the poetic mind.
