Jar / Takeuchi Sho
Iron-Glazed Incised Jar by Takeuchi Sho
What attracted me to this work was the mingei feel of the shape, the warm irabo-style glaze combined with the eerie slices on the front and back that hint at what lies underneath the surface......It was made by veteran ceramic artist Takeuchi Sho(1931-) who studied with LNTs Tomimoto Kenkichi and Kondo Yuzo at Kyoto Fine Arts University. His fine career started in 1954 and he's exhibited throughout Japan and has been in the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition, Mainichi Ceramic Art Exhibition, Japan Traditional Arts and Crafts Exhibition, amongst others. A very sublime work in perfect condition with a signed box, 23.2cm.tall and 15.5wide, signed stamped take (bamboo) on base. Takeuchi is based in Kasama.
