Edo Period Seto Mugiwarade Guinomi
The Mugiwarade (literally meaning barley straw style) style was extremely popular during the later Edo Period (1603-1868), especially upon tea bowls. Commonly associated with alternating parallel lines of gosu (cobalt blue glaze) and tetsuyu (iron glaze), the style was made in large quantities by the Owari Seto Feudal Kiln. This Seto guinomi made in the Edo Period is tiny, but has much flavor due to loving use by its many owners over the years. The cracks in the glaze, and the austere, wabi-sabi qualities accumulated in the base, give this piece a greater presence than its size belies. 4.1cm tall, 5cm wide, comes only with an added wood box (not signed) and is in very good condition.
