Oribe Plate by Teshigahara Hiroshi
Teshigahara Hiroshi (1927-2001) was the son of the founder of the Sogetsu school of Kado, or the Way of Flower Art, Teshigahara Sofu. Sofu had an enormous impact on the modernization of Flower Art in the 20th century. His son Hiroshi, who inherited the title of the 3rd head of the Sogetsu School of Flower Art, also was a multi-media artist as well as film director. He even made pottery, as can be seen in this Oribe platter by Hiroshi. Like his flower designs, there is a boldness to his works. This can be seen in the vivid blue lagoon of glaze at the center of this Oribe plate. The color is serene, but at the same time, deep and profound, and is a contemplative plate that is wonderful to simply display. By a winner of numerous awards for his contribution to the Japanese art world, Teshigahara Hiroshi's plate is 3cm tall, 23.5cm wide. Comes with a signed box and is in perfect condition.
