Hagi Guinomi and Tokkuro by Udagawa Hosei
To commemorate the publication of Robert Yellin's new book, "Ode to Japanese Pottery," we will begin a Shuki (sake vessel) exhibition starting today, July 26th to the 31st of August. Featured items will include approx. 100 vessels from the Yellin Collection, as well as many works by various artists. You will see pieces that were featured in the book -they have become, in a sense, "historical" pieces. Such shuki, along with other shuki from the Yellin Collection, are very much a part of Robert Yellin. "It is with great joy and sadness that I say goodbye to these sake vessels. They have been with me for 20 years or so and have been my teachers and friends. Many nights in my small Japanese kitchen I enjoyed drinking 'with them' and then pouring over books to seek out the questions that they poured forth. If fate brings one into your home please do treat them well and may they give you as much pleasure as they have given me." Udagawa Hosei was a master Hagi potter who passed away much too young. Featured in Ode to Japanese Pottery, here is a Hagi tokkuri and Hagi guinomi by Udagawa.
