Guinomi / Kato Kenji
Turkish Blue Bajohai Guinomi by Kato Kenji
Veteran Mino potter Kato Kenji's (1933- ) specialty is his "toruko-ao" or Turkish Blue glaze, as can be seen in this delicately-potted and underglazed bajohai (tall-footed) guinomi. After graduating from the Kyoto University of Fine Art, he apprenticed under Kyoto legend Tomimoto Kenkichi. After this apprenticeship, Kato embarked on an internationally-successful career. Not only is his blue comforting, his finely painted floral patterns call to mind the romance of the Silk Road. The well of the guinomi is painted with true skill, and along with the thinly-potted form, combine to make a captivating bajohai. This piece is 5.2cm tall, 5.2cm wide, comes with a signed box and is in perfect condition.
