Nezumi Shino Chawan by Wakao Toshisada
Born in Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture in 1933, Wakao Toshisada has risen to critical acclaim and popularity for his "Rinpa" style Shino and other Mino wares. Just last year (2003) he was designated a Gifu Prefecture Intangible Cultural Property holder. His work is at once flamboyant but sensitive, with intricate underglaze patterns of flowers and animals. Perhaps one can call Wakao the "epitome" of a grand, luxurious style of Shino. 10.5cm tall, 12.3cm wide, comes with a signed box and is in perfect condition.
