Bizen Vase by Kakurezaki Ryuich
This Bizen vase by Kakurezaki Ryuichi (1950-) is full of life. Soft, roundish and biomorphic, the form of this vase is reminiscent to the form that won Kakurezaki the Grand Prize at the 5th Tanabe Museum "Tea Forms Exhibition". Bizen maestro Kakurezaki is the only potter to have won this award twice- this is testament to his amazing presence in the Japanese contemporary ceramic art scene. Almost like it was poured softly into existence, the body is accented by two distinctive traits- the display of "kase-goma" crusty ash near the mouth of the piece, and the etchings/carvings he has applied throughout the entirety of the body. These traits give the vase animation and life, and the etchings help the body glow when wet. A museum piece and representative of "Heisei" Bizen, this vase is 32cm tall, 20cm wide, 14.5cm long, comes with a signed box and is in perfect condition.
