Guinomi / Shimaoka Tatsuzo
Ash-Glazed Guinomi by Shimaoka Tatsuzo
One of Japan's true 'Ambassadors of Clay' has to be Mashiko's Living National Treasure Shimaoka Tatsuzo (1919-). His work, as you all know, is in museum and private collections the world over. I see many works that move me, and then again, many that don't. His output is so vast. Here is a very fine ash-glazed guinomi that he doesn't get many at all out of one kiln. They rank at the top of his various styles. Enjoy the photos for now, in perfect condition with a signed box, 5.8cm.tall and 7.8cm.across.
