Guinomi by Ito Motohiko
An early guinomi---dating to 1975---from veteran Kasama potter Ito Motohiko(1939-). Ito is best known for his nunome (a kind of cheese-cloth) pattern and also for his exceptional designs. He studied under Fujimoto Yoshimichi, Tamura Koichi, and also Matsui Kosei; all past Living National Treasures. Ito has had a very successful career with many one-person exhibitions throughout Japan's finest galleries and his pieces have found their way into many overseas collections as well. This is a rather charming understated guinomi with a simple camellia flower and a curving tree trunk(?) painted over the creamy white glaze---hard to capture the warmth of the glaze in the photos. Stamped 'to' on side, in perfect condition with a signed box, 6.0cm.tall and 7.6cm.across.
