E-Shino Chawan by Sakai Kobu
Toki-city Intangible Cultural Property Sakai Kobu(1936-) also recently fired his kiln and this e(picture)-Shino chawan was born. Sakai is such a wonderful Mino ceramic artist with a quiet flair. I have seen and handled his white Shino guinomi before (actually I have three new ones to upload soon) but this is the first chawan with such a crackled glaze. It is delightful in its shape, glaze, foot, clay, and the two-tone picture on the shomen or front. What do you see? All kinds of images flicker in my mind when I gaze upon it and I'm sure we all see something different. It will surely change in character with use. Two Sakai Shino chawan were recently added to the permanent collection of the Toki City Mino Ceramic Museum. In perfect condition with a signed box, 9.3cm.tall and 12.0cm.across. Perfect for spring.....
