Shinsha Kabin by Morino Kako
First off, this shinsha kabin-vase-jar by Morino Kako(1899-1987) is magical like a crystal ball. Secondly, it was incredibly diificult to capture the true color. In the photos it appears blue while it is much more of an apple green color with smoky flashes over the body. I went on-line to find colors and found this link: http://www.goldenpaints.com/cobttgrn.htm they refer to the color as Cobalt Titanate Green---it's the middle one. The red shinsha on the Morino piece is seen around the base and lip. Over the whole work a transparent glaze(tomei-yu) has been applied giving the work a very reflective nature. The rounded form has a very special aura around it. Morino was born in Kyoto and one of its finest 20th century potters. In 1949, along with Kiyomizu Rokubee Vl and Kawai Enosuke, he founded the Kyoto Ceramicists Club. He also won the Kyoto Cultural Prize for his outstanding work. His son Taimei is carrying on the tradition in his own right. I've set a very low price for the work due to the difficulty in capturing the colors----this has got to be the hardest piece we've ever photographed. In perfect condition, 20.2cm.tall and 16.4cm.across, kako etched on base, with a signed box, Shinsha kabin, Kako-saku. Quite rare.
