E-Karatsu Guinomi by Nakazato Shigetoshi
A fine E-garatsu(painted Karatsu) guinomi by Nakazato Shigetoshi(1930-). The Nakazato family is the oldest pottery family in Karatsu and Shigetoshi's father was the late Living National Treasure TaroemonXl(Muan). The current Taroemon is the fourteenth. Here is a delightful rinka--flower petal---shaped reed painted guinomi. It has rough, sandy characteristic Karatsu clay and some crawling on the buff glaze known as kairagi--this is a 'landscape' famous on Karatsu wares. The base has been left unglazed---Nakazato signed his mark there. He has had a stellar career with many awards including the Saga Prefecture Cultural Award. In perfect condition with a signed box, 4.5cm.tall and 5.6cm.across.
