Sakazuki / Ito Sekisui
Nerikomi Sakazuki by Ito Sekisui
A rare and wonderful nerikomi (marbled) large sakazuki (sake cup) by Ito SekisuiV. Ito's kiln is located on Sado Island off the coast of Niigata. The wares he fires are called mumyoi and use the richly red local clay---some of which bursts out in small flashes on this sakazuki. A beige-colored clay creates small borders around the smoky circles and overlap on the inside of the lip. Ito's work has been published in many international books (Japan Society, Japanese Studio Crafts) and is in the collections of museums worldwide including the Met and V&A museums. In perfect condition with a signed box, sign etched on base, 4.5cm.tall and 10.0cm.wide. Much more of a shibui aura than Matsui Kosei's work....
