Minou-yaki Mizusashi by Matsuda Kizan
In a major book on tea bowls, 'Chawan Kama Betsu Meikan' by Kazuya Kuroda, a Minou-yaki chawan is featured on page 526; the firing is exactly the same as the diamond-shaped mizusashi offered here. The Minoo kiln is located in Osaka and was founded in 1921 by Matsuda Shio; this mizusashhi is by the second generation, both generations are Matsuda Kizan. The wares are very much in the Raku realm with a low-fired body and hand formed(tebineri) feel. Matsuda wanted to capture a maple leaf-like aura on the pottery and the splendid purple-red-white tones overlapping each other create quite a scene on this unusual work. The inside has a clear glaze and a recessed lid. Circa 1970, in perfect condition with a signed box (Minou-yaki, mizusashi, Kizan-saku), stamped Kizan on base, 16.5cm.tall, 21.0cm.across and 17.5cm.deep.
