Early Edo Period Shigaraki Tsubo
An early Edo period Shigaraki tsubo-jar in perfect condition, no repairs or restoration, only slight nicks on base as to be expected. It's quite rare to find such a jar in this condition; easily fit for a museum. Natural olive-green ash glaze on front and a heavily pitted stone body; these are known as ishihaze or 'stone explosions' and are a keshiki ('landscape') for such works. For similar examples please see Cort's 'Shigaraki' book or 'The Great Shigaraki Exhibtion' catalog. 28.5cm.tall and 24.8cm.wide.
