Koro / Fukami Sueharu
Fukami Sueharu Koro
Kyoto's Fukami Sueharu is an internationally recognized ceramic artist that has works in museums which are too numerous to count. These include The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; Suntory Museum, Tokyo; Museo Internationale delle Ceramiche, Faenza, Italy; The Brooklyn Museum, New York; and the V&A, London. I'm looking at a list that goes on and on for awards as well. It's easy to see why. His seihakuji bluish-white porcelain are sculptural masterpieces that he makes in very limited editions. Here is a fine koro that has a curved triangular base and a sharp-edged top that curves out like a wing. A thin white line where the perfect glaze was thinly applied can be seen on the top as well as along the edges of the base. A bit more on Fukami can be read here: http://www.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/getarticle.pl5?fc20010509ry.htm Perfect condition with a signed box, 'seihakuji, sumi(pure), koro, sueharu,' sue is etched on base. 21.2cm.tall and 16.cm.across the top.
