Kobayashi Hideo(b.1951) is a Kyoto veteran ceramic artist who has had a most stellar career after graduating from the Kyoto University of Art in 1975; his first award came soon thereafter in 1980 at the Kyoto Prefectural Arts and Crafts Exhibition. The list now includes Excellence Prize, 7th Japan Ceramics Exhibition and the Mayor’s Prize, Kyoto Art Exhibition('83, and the latter also in '86), Three Grand Prix's in '87 at the15th Chunichi International Contemporary Ceramics Exhibition, Kyoto Prefectural Arts and Crafts Exhibition, and Kyoto Art Exhibition Prize, the list goes on and on with highlights including the Highest Honor at Nitten in 2006 and 2008. Kobayashi's works are also favored by celebrated Ikebana masters, especially in the Ohara School; they glisten in the light and truly capture the mind's eye. This work entitled 'Reimei(daybreak or the point when a concept takes form)' has a most engaging texture and form, the hallmarks of a Kobayashi work.
