Shimura Noriyuki(b.1956) is a rare ceramic artist today in that he is only one of a handful the continues to create saikumono-ornamental figures like those of long ago. He studied with the late Aichi Prefectural Intangible Cultural Property and 'Glaze Master' Kato Sho after graduating from Tama University of Art Ceramic department. His knowledge of world art is rich and deep and his ability to create figures from Japanese folklore and life is well-respected and collected. We hope you can see why in these two animated figures, one of a dragon--on reserve--and the other of a sumo wrestler; the dragon is 15.5cm.tallx19x7 and the Sumo wrestler is 20.5cm.tallx10.5x6.5, both in perfect condition, signed within base.
