Large Shell Form by Tanoue Shinya
Award-winning Kyoto ceramic artist Tanoue Shinya(b.1976) is expanding his signature shell-motif incised forms with a new glazing scheme, luster. The pieces speak of shells in more ways than one now with an abalone-like sheen that is quite dazzling, seen on the inside. The clay is also coarser than his earlier work adding texture and darker colors to the clay body; some stones have been used from the Uji River near where Tanoue lives. A large museum quality work, 39cm.tallx49x46.
