Uzukumaru Jar by Tsujimura Shiro
One classic shape of old jar form is called uzukumaru. It's a squat jar that has been favored by chajin for centuries to display 'simple' chabana arrangements in; of course before that they were used by farmers to process seeds, liquids, etc...Uzukumaru often have incised rope or cypress fence designs on the shoulder known as nawame or higaki. This strong example does not though, yet has a very noble form from the hands and spirit of one of Japan's most noble potters, Tsujimura Shiro. In perfect condition with a signed box, 22cm.tallx18, signed on side.
