Tall Aquamarine Sculpture-Vase by Taniguchi Yoshitaka
The Taniguchi family of Kyoto are renowned for their glazes, especially blue. Those were originated by Taniguchi Ryozo(1926-1996), who had a most prolific career receiving dozens of awards, such as the Japan Ceramic Society Award in 1961. His son Masanori and grandson Yoshitaka carry on in the grand Taniguchi glaze tradition. Yoshitaka(b.1979) attended various ceramic schools in Kyoto before apprenticing with his father in 2000. He's since been shown at the juried Nihon Shin-Kogei Ten and Nitten from 2005. His engaging-sculptured forms are fresh for the Taniguchi kiln, as he expands the family's traditions into the 21st century. Here is a towering form with a 'window' that draws one's eyes into a mysterious space. Light seems to emit from the edges of the works, that appear as cut ledges all over the base and growing up the form. The glazing is finely crackled and of a soothing aquamarine tone--it's called 'Shinkai no Iseki' or Deep Sea Relic; 45cm.tallx 24cm. wide at basex18cm, also base, signed on base, in perfect condition with a signed box.
