Mashiko-Henko Jar by Kimura Ichiro
Here is the fourth in our over a decade gallery Kimura Ichiro Mashiko Henko Jar, as written in previous listings, "In the Mashiko Ceramic Art Museum permanent works usually on display can be seen by Hamada, Tomimoto, Kawai, Kamoda, Leach, Shimaoka, Murata, Sakuma, and Kimura Ichiro. In fact, a full retrospective of Kimura was held at the museum in 1998- such is his importance in Mashiko- even though his name isn't that well known in the west. Kimura(1915-1978) studied with Hamada starting in 1935. He had his first kiln opening of his own in 1947 and showed at important exhibitions including one at the Tokyo National Museum in 1964 where he exhibited a Kuro-kaki yu o-tsubo(black- persimmon glaze large jar)." This is one of Kimura's signature-unique forms with persimmon-iron-gray glazed tones over the juxtaposed square sections that slightly jut out on all four sides. A very intriguing work by one of Mashiko's hidden greats for any museum or private collection. In perfect condition, 23.5cm.tallx17.5x9, stamped on base, where there are two nicks, not visible when on display front or back.
